Last night the Harrison County Planning Commission voted to send a zoning change request on to the commissioners with a favorable recommendation. Public hearing docket 823 seeks to change the zoning from PEC (Planned Economic Development) to I-2 (Heavy Industry). This change will allow Robertson Crushed Stone to construct and open a new ready-mix concrete plant on the land.
Many residents attended the public hearing to advocate against this change citing concerns of decreased air quality, noise pollution, traffic increases, and water contamination. Many of the speakers also made note that a turn towards heavy industry is in opposition to the original comprehensive plan for the Lanesville interchange.
The commissioners will make the final vote on Monday, November 6th at 7:00pm at the Harrison County Government Center.

Last night Harrison County Parks superintendent Larry Shickles provided the board with updates on the multiple playground projects throughout the county.
New playgrounds at Buffalo Trace and Gresham Park should be finished in the next few weeks, but the larger inclusive playground at Hayswood is delayed due to weather, supply chain issues, and illness within installation staff. The project will not be completed by the initially projected date of July 29th and the Parks Department should have a better idea of a new completion date next month.
