Commissioners send $50,000 request from the Boys & Girls Club on to the council...

Yesterday the Boys & Girls Club of Harrison-Crawford Counties presented a request for $50,000 out of American Rescue Plan funds. Additional funding is needed to increase wages to combat a staff shortage seen throughout their sites.

Executive Director Kim Grizzel outlined the importance of this request, stating that “we’re under more pressure than ever to really up our numbers and take as many youth as possible” due to the closure of multiple local childcare facilities. As of Monday, August 1, all of the sites for childcare with the Boys & Girls club are full with waitlists growing.

Since 2013, the Boys & Girls club has received $150,000 annually from the county. In 2013, they were serving an average of 40 kids per day. In 2022, they are averaging 300 kids per day with the same amount of funding.
