County council approves $1.5 million for playgrounds so that construction can start...

Last night the Harrison County Council voted to deny the original request of $3 million from the Parks Department for playgrounds.

The council did approve an appropriation of $1,584,955 from American Rescue Plan funds which will be used to order new playground equipment to be ordered for the inclusive facility at Hayswood, two new playgrounds for Buffalo Trace, and one at Gresham Park in Lanesville. For the remainder of the project costs, the Parks Department will apply for a grant at the Harrison County Community Foundation. Julie Moorman of the Harrison County Community Foundation spoke about their timeline on funding the remainder $1.5 million needed to complete the projects.

With this appropriation, the Parks Department can order equipment and construction is projected to begin in early spring 2023.
